Meet The Author
My name is Sylvester Barzey, and I am a best-selling author of horror and fantasy. Born and raised in the Bronx, NY, I spent some time living in the smallest state in the country before settling in Bethlehem, GA. As a military veteran with an insatiable passion for all things horror, my primary goal is to shine a spotlight on BIPOC characters within the horror and fantasy genres.
From a young age, I was captivated by horror movies, especially slashers. The "Final Girl" trope fascinated me—the idea of someone overcoming insurmountable odds to emerge as the ultimate survivor deeply resonated with me. However, it took time to realize that these survivors were predominantly white.
Through my writing, I aim to diversify the landscape of horror and fantasy, bringing more representation and nuanced stories to the forefront.
Seeing only one type of person rise as a survivor builds barriers in people's minds, leading them to believe that resilience is exclusive to one race. This is far from the truth. The Black community, especially Black women, have survival ingrained in their DNA. History has demonstrated time and again that overcoming great odds is something Black people have always done.
When I couldn't find the final girls I was looking for—though there are some incredible ones out there—I set out to create them myself. My stories aim to reflect the true diversity of strength and survival.
